In a strange twist of faite, the Ticonderoga class Ageis cruiser have assumed the role of outer area battlefield management from the Grumman F14 Tomcat. With the shrinking of carrier air wings and the shift to the smaller F18 Hornet, the Tomcat has become a deep strike bomber/attack aircraft, while the Ageis weapons system has assumed the role of fleet defender.
