Bombed - Shelled at nite. Going into the jungle tomorrow. Christ but these jungles are dark, damp, and a helluva place to spend the time o'day.

August 27

Seven of us - My lucky number. Sighted about 150 Nips. Killed 2 of their outposts without being seen. I leave tomorrow to report.

August 28

Rations cut to 1/4 can a day and 2 chunks of chocolate. Water is scarce. Were spotted but we swam the Illu River. R.T. and C.D. wounded. (I must live a charmed life)

September 1

Lost quite a few buddies the past few days. Don't know if the're lucky or not. Arrived here at Rondevous Area. Report satisfactory.

September 2

Bombed quite a bit today. The Jap planes are coming overr in much larger numbers. We need reinforcements badly.

September 3

Bombed severely today. Shelled at night by subs and destroyers

September 4

Bombed by quite a few planes that many Zeros. They dropped mostly daisy cutters, probably 40 or 45 bombers and

September 5

Japs are planning an attack probably to come from the direction of the Matanakow River. They are still landing reinforcements.

September 6

Bombed. Japs dropped some big bombs for a change. One 2,000 Ibs. Just missed Jerry Morgan. Concussion knocked him out.

September 7

Bert Smith is very calm says he has no fear of death because God will take care of him.
