These appear to be Lion's Mane Jellyfish (Cyanea capillata). The available literature online says that these jellyfish only come into the bays during the cold part of winter, toward the end of their one-year lifespan. These Jellyfish eat fish eggs, fish, copepods, zooplankton, and they can eat other jellyfish. But Lion's Mane Jellyfish also are said to harbor several types of fish and shrimp.

When we ran the Hydrolab tests on February 15, there must have been thousands of these jellyfish in Garnier's Bayou because we saw around 300, just travelling between test stations.
